Loni, which falls in Ghaziabad, could be the next satellite town to get Metro connectivity. The DMRC has sought an in-principle approval from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for construction of a station close to the Delhi border in the town during its Phase 3 expansion.

The Metro station has planned at Johari Enclave and the DMRC has sought a portion of the land in the colony from Uttar Pradesh. The station will be constructed on the proposed 3km-long Yamuna Vihar to Shiv Vihar line under phase 3.

"The alignment of the network falls in UP territory and this requires approval from the UP state officials. We are hopeful this station would cater to a huge population from the area," a DMRC spokesperson said.

Authority's vice-chairman, Narendra Kumar Chaudhary, said the request has been forwarded to the state officials in Lucknow for approval.

Loni has an estimated population of over 6-7 lakh. "If a Metro station comes up in the vicinity, we will save a lot of time that is lost in commuting as we have no direct connectivity to many areas of Delhi"" said Subodh Gupta, a Loni resident.

The extension would be a part of the third-phase of the Metro network, from Mukundpur to Yamuna Vihar, and would connect various areas in different directions of north, south and east Delhi .
